A Graphic Designer is a person who uses computer technology to design visual communications of a businesses information. They develop the overall layout and production design for advertisements, brochures, magazines, and corporate reports, as well as websites, game characters and more.

This 2 year course is aimed at a learner who has passed Matric, and is looking to be an innovative and artistic Graphic Design professional.

Students will learn all of the necessary skills to create, represent and market a brand digitally. This qualification would qualify the student for jobs such as Material Designer or Web Designer. *

MODULES

NOT FOR CREDITS

This module focuses on introducing and developing students’ business computing skills and their understanding of computing in a business environment.

Business computing skills covered in the course relate to spreadsheets, word processing, search techniques and the use of computers as a presentation medium, using the Windows Operating Systems and Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.

This module will give the learners an understanding of types of businesses, entrepreneurship, organisational procedures and business plans within the South African Graphic Design sector.

The Module will also cover professional presentation and communication.

22 Credits 

The aim of this module is to introduce learners to fundamentals design techniques, layouts, skills and jargon.

This module aims to teach learners the art of conceptualization and making a clients vision a reality.

14 Credits

The aim of this module is to introduce learners to the history of design concepts, famous designers and classic design techniques.

16 credits

The aim of this module is to introduce learners to the everyday computer programmes used by graphic designers , such as Adobe Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator and more.

The aim of this module is to introduce learners to techniques that help you generate meaning to images without the use of words.

20 Credits

The aim of this module is to introduce learners to basic concepts of marketing, understanding a businesses needs, brands and target markets.

21 Credits

This module teaches students the significance of font and typeface, which type can be manipulated to create an aesthetic layout, including tracking, kerning, leading and point size.

14 credits

The aim of this module is to teach learners the principles of project management to enable them to support the project environment and activities to deliver project objectives.

12 Credits

This modules teaches learners the importance of working as a designer in corporate, including developing and implementing a strategy and action plans for a team, identifying and interpreting best practice guidelines, and monitoring team members to measure effectiveness of performance.

20 Credits

The aim of this module is to introduce learners to the 3D Art environment by designing and developing two and three dimensional animation elements.

The learners will create an interactive, 3D Animated character.

10 credits

The aim of this module is to teach learners to create a digital browseable portfolio for themselves.

9 Credits

The learners will learn to create videos using still, interactive and sound media.

19 Credits

This module teaches learners to design for physical publishing and printing of paper media.

31 Credits

This module teaches learners the programming language of HTML and CSS, which is a widely used markup language for Web Development.

The learners will also be taught how to create advanced websites and online stores using WordPress.
